For the next 6 weeks, I have the pleasure to write for KMYOGA to guide their beautiful community on a nutritional level during their 40 DAY Cleanse.
Week 1 of the Cleanse is based on ou base chakra, our Muladhara chakra. The intention for week 1 is to generate COURAGE to initiate our intentions.
The Muladhara chakra is also known as the root chakra and is located at the base of our spine. Its job is to look after the spine, hips, legs, feet, as well our physical body in general. It makes sure that we receive everything we need to survive.
When our Muladhara chakra is balanced, we feel grounded, sure, stable, strong and steady. We have the courage to initiate our intentions and take the steps needed to reach our goals. But as soon as we are experiencing imbalances in this chakra, we can feel airy, ungrounded, insecure, fatigued or instable. Imbalances in this chakra can be caused by stresses regarding basic security such as our health or our financial security.
Foods that nourish our root chakra are grounding foods like root vegetables (carrots, pumpkin, potatoes, sweet potatoes, beets, parsnips, radishes, onions, garlic, etc.) or protein-rich foods such as nuts and seeds, beans, tempeh, quinoa or nut butter.
Soy products like tofu and soymilk are also good vegan protein sources but we have to keep in mind that they are highly processed products containing estrogens. That’s why I wouldn’t recommend eating them regularly. Nut milks are much better alternatives than soymilk and tempeh is also much better than tofu as it’s less processed and has been fermented. Always keep in mind to choose organic, especially for soy products, which are most likely genetically modified if they aren’t organic.
