Today, I am glad to re-introduce the guest interviews on the blog with my friend Hélène!
In this interview, you will not only meet this beautiful Frenchie but also discover some of her secrets as well as some delicious recipes! Yum
Hélène, could you please explain what brought you there/how did you find your path?
Hello! Bonjour! Hola! I am Hélène from enSALADes.com. I am French with a touch of Spanish blood and an Australian passport. I am studying Health Science to become a qualified nutritionist, work in a health store and blog about healthy eating, body acceptance and holistic health in English, French and Spanish.
Could you please explain what brought you there/how did you find your path?
It took me a long time to find my path. I never thought that my darkest experiences with eating disorders, self-destructing habits / thoughts could actually lead me somewhere but they did. I now believe I would have recovered quicker if I’d heard of natural health earlier on and came across websites like *enSALADes*. I then decided to share the love and help others find their own international journey to nutrition.
Could you please share one of the biggest challenges you had to face and how you managed it?
It was not easy to swap my full-time corporate job for full-time studies. Every time I doubt myself, my family, friends and partner remind me how much happier I am now. I stop thinking about myself and work harder to make them proud. Focusing on what is important and what I want to achieve help me moving forward and stepping out of my comfort zone.
What’s new and good regarding your projects & what do you plan for the near future?
I just got engaged! I have no clue about weddings so it might be quite interesting to organize two or three celebrations in France and Australia! Like my blog, it is going to be highly multicultural!
I also have three months off uni coming up soon. I have been asked for a bit of nutritional guidance by a few people. I am more than happy to dedicate some of my time to help others during the break. I also have many recipes I want to upload on my site and projects I want to work on before I graduate.
What was your best holiday/trip & why?
I love road trips. Most of the time, travelling means for me an opportunity to catch up with my family or spend some quality time with my boyfriend… hum fiancé. We prepare a nice picnic so we can eat anywhere we want, usually in the middle of nature. Beautiful landscapes + awesome company + simple pleasures of life = unforgettable moments!
What’s your favourite beauty product?
I drink plenty of (filtered) water every day! Also working in a health store, I get to try different natural products all the time. At the moment, my skin loves the oil cleanser from Moogoo and Nutter Body Cream.
What’s your your most important health secret?
I listen to my body. I eat a healthy and balanced diet because it makes me feel better. The more I know about physiology and biochemistry, the more I understand how important it is to eat a bit of everything in the right quantities. The impact of my food choices and healthy eating on my body, looks or mood is undeniable. Our bodies do so much for us that it is important to nourish it properly instead of punishing it constantly.
Life is a continual improvement, what did you learn lately?
I just relocated to a new city in Western Australia with my partner. I had to face unexpected challenges and was forced to reassess and adapt quickly. I was reminded that it is important to be patient, open-minded and not too hard with yourself in order to get what you want in life.
What advice would you give to our readers to help them reach their dreams / happiness?
Listen to your gut feeling. Our gut is our second brain, right? Try not to have any regrets in life. Even dark experiences like eating disorders can teach us something. Don’t let this type of things get in your way and don’t become your worst enemy. If you want to do something you are passionate about, love and let others love you, it is important to believe in yourself, face your problems, trust your intuition and work for it. All the good things that are happening to me are the consequences of the many steps forward I took in the past when I decided it was time to recover and live my life fully.
My body deserves love for all the things it does to keep me alive.
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger
I enjoyed reading ‘In defence of food’ from Michael Pollan.
Tough one to pick just one as I can pretty much listen a bit of everything… I am just going to pick a singer that reminds me the South of France… Francis Cabrel. ‘La corrida’ is one of my favourite songs.
I am a salad addict as you can tell with the name of my blog. I love adding nuts, fruits and little bits of cheese! Weird for a French person, isn’t it?
Season & why
without a doubt. Like chemical reactions, I function way better in a warmer environment. I have always considered the weather before moving to a new city. On top of that, salads are the perfect meal in summer!
I love swimming, zumba, pilates and enjoy jogging next to the water. In winter or rainy days, I enjoy watching a good movie or TV show with my partner on our small couch.
At the moment, it seems that I cannot get enough of organic frozen berries. I eat them with a zest of lemon or lime or love making my own sorbet. You can find my favourite recipe here.
You could not live without…
Fresh fruits and veggies for my salads
