Discover 5 things that will help you heal and take care of your gut...

The Ultimate Gut Healing Solution

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you should probably know that I am currently healing my body from a gut inflammation.

This is due to the fact that I am sensitive to some foods, I just don’t know which ones yet.

So, at the moment I am working hard to heal this inflammation because as you know, this kind of things can create very bad health issues on the long term such as malabsorption, lack of certain nutriments and much more not-so-sexy things.

But I know that many people are actually suffering from digestion issues and all of us would definitely benefit from taking extra care of our lovely little gut. That’s why I thought it would be great to share with you guys what I call the ultimate gut healing solution.

After a bit of research and discussions with health experts, I can definitely share with you the keys to a healthy gut:

Probiotics

Probiotics are the good bacterias that are found in our gut’s flora. Eating probiotics such as fermented vegetables, kefir, natural organic yoghurt, etc. is great to help replenish gut flora.

You can also take a probiotic supplement, such as a wide spectrum liquid probiotic solution, like I do for example. This is a great solution to help you have all the different bacterias you need. If you do so, look for something that has been tested. You also want an expiry date on the product and make sure that it is certified to stay alive all the way through the bowels. You don’t want the bacteria dying before that.

But to be honest, if you eat fermented foods daily, you don’t need to buy any probiotics, which can be expensive.

Aloe vera

Aloe vera is an awesome anti-inflammatory product.

As the juice is quite pricy where I live. I just bought a huge plant to put in my garden. Once in a while I cut a big leave that I use in my juices and smoothies.

If you do so, be careful to NOT eating the gel straight after cutting the leave. On the inside, you will see that the gel is wrapped in a yellow substance. This yellow lining is laxative. So you want to cut the leave and put it in a glass for about 12 to 24 hours. The yellow coating will run down and you will then be able to cut the leave and take the gel to put in your smoothies or juices.

A very easy recipe I am making regularly with aloe vera is the following: start by preparing some rosella tea. Once it’s cold, blend it with some lemon juice, stevia, cinnamon and aloe vera. I sip that throughout the day, while working and that does the trick to stay hydrated and heal your system.

Fish oil

Fish oil is a great anti-inflammatory food/supplement that I would suggest to anyone. You can take up to 3 grams per day to supplement a healthy and balanced diet. If you have some inflammation issues (skin issues and auto-immune diseases included), I would recommend to take between 3 and 7 grams per day of fish oil to fight the inflammation. You will be surprised by the results.

Fish oil will also help cleaning the bad fats that are contained in most packaged and industrialised products.

Be careful to choose a brand that is free of pesticides and heavy metals. Look for something that has been tested for mercury and has a pharmaceutical certification as well.

Kombucha

Kombucha tea is a fermented drink rich in good bacteria as per all other fermented foods. To make kombucha, you need a scooby mushroom. It took me months before being able to finally find mine. If you want to find one, you can ask at your local farmers market or health food store. If they make kombucha, they will probably be able to provide you with a mushroom.

Once you’ve got the mushroom, you just need to make some tea. Add some sugar in your tea (the mushroom will eat the sugar to make the fermentation process happen). You need to wait that the tea is cold before putting your mushroom in there, otherwise you’ll cook your mushroom.

Leave you kombucha brewing for about a week in a glass container. It will ferment and give you a nice kombucha tea, rich in good bacterias. Drink icy cold… this is delicious!

Coconut Kefir

Coconut kefir is another fermented drink that is great to replenish your gut! As per the kombucha, you’ll need the kefir grains (the friendly bacterias) to make some. Once you’ve got the grains, put them in some fresh coconut water in a glass container for a few days and once the sugar from the coconut water has been eaten, your kefir is all ready to drink.

Now I’d love to hear from you!
