Eating For Beauty – part 1

Not very long ago, I published an article telling you how to increase your happiness level through nutrition. You can read it here.

If it’s true for mood and happiness, it’s certainly true for beauty!

The problem with destructive eating patterns (dieting, bulimia, binge eating, etc) is that 99% of the time, they deplete your body of important nutrients you need to be at your best.

This not only means that your body can’t perform at its best anymore but also that it impacts important parts of your being such as your happiness levels and mood but also your overall beauty!

Thin, brittle hair and nails, really pale, dry skin, acne, reduced muscle mass… Can you relate?

Having thick, shiny hair, sparkling eyes, beautiful skin… everything is tweak-able through nutrition!

As always, I know it because I’ve experienced it first hand. Just over the past few months, I’ve been able to increase my hair growth and thickness considerably just by addressing some vitamin and amino acid deficiencies.

This is why I’ve decided to write a series of articles about this topic.

This week, you’ll discover a few interesting foods that have amazing beautifying properties and next week, I’ll go into more details about what kind of micronutrients (read vitamins, minerals, etc) you want to pay attention to when it comes to supporting and improving your natural beauty.

Eating For Beauty – Top 5 Best Foods For Beauty

1. Avocado

Avocados are rich in good saturated fats and vitamin E, which both assist the production of collagen and enhance skin tone. Avocados also contain approximately 1/3 of the daily requirement of vitamin K and folate, lots of pantothenic acids, vitamin B6, niacin, riboflavin, and vitamin C, which are all super important for skin health. They can even reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Finally, did you know that avocados have twice the potassium of a banana?

2. Coconut

Coconut contains kinetin, which keeps the coconut young despite the fact that it’s under the sun all day long in tropical countries. Kinetin has the exact same effect on our body and keeps us young longer. This is why coconut oil is a great natural beauty product. Apply it on your skin and hair as a moisturiser. It also contains a mild SPF (about SPF 7) to protect your skin from the sun, so you can safely use it every day… It’s probably safer than your day cream without any SPF.

On top of that, it has been proven that the saturated fat in coconut oil is anti-viral and anti-fungal and supports the immune system, thyroid gland, nervous system, and skin.

3. Raw cacao

Raw cacao is rich in antioxidants, which protects your cells from free-radicals and the aging process but it’s not all. Cacao also contains heaps of minerals, more especially magnesium, iron, chromium, manganese, zinc, copper, and phosphorus, which are all very important in supporting healthy beautiful skin and hair.
Zinc (important for cell growth and repair) and iron deficiencies are linked to issues such as acne and hair loss.

Psst, are you a chocolate lover?

If so, check out my chocolate cookbook. I am sure it will make you happy.

4. Hemp

Hempseeds and oil are one of the rare complete sources of protein (33 to 37% of its weight) and are packed with life-force energy and enzymes. They are rich in Omega-3, 6 and 9 which are all very important for brain functions and considered a high quality beautifying oil.

Hempseeds and oil are great to boost your immune system and bring balance in your essential fatty acids, thus are also decreasing inflammation. They deliver a balanced array of amino acids and are rich in minerals such as phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium, iron, manganese, zinc, sodium, silicon, copper and many others, which are all promoting healthy skin, hair and nails.

5. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a powerful anti-inflammatory that can be used in your food and topically on your skin.

Used in your smoothies, it will heal your gut and promote good general health. Used directly on your skin, it has impressive healing properties. You can apply it on wounds, cuts, sunburns, and other skin issues to notice the benefits quickly.
